For decades before the dawn of the Maker movement, the Edgerton Center has been a home for Makers: collaborative, playful, experiential learners who believe everyone should have access to the tools for building a better world. We began by supporting MIT students as they came together and learned how to build the things they love. Over the years, we've grown to support local community members, international schools, and STEAM education organizations looking for access to tools, activities, and collaborators.
The K-12 Maker team prepares teachers to lead engaging and relevant learning experiences, giving their students the tools to create, the courage to fail, and the empathy to solve problems as a community. We do this through professional development workshops and free online resources. Teachers transform from direct instructors to facilitators of meaningful projects that utilize creative, current technologies. We continually improve our materials and approaches to Making in the classroom as technology and the educational landscape evolves. We invite K-12 educators to join our community of Makers and to use this webiste as a resource for setting up, operating and enjoying Makerspaces. |
