Actor John Barrymore III, half-brother of Drew Barrymore, has been attacked in his home by burglars.

Six teenagers entered his home in Mountain View, California on Wednesday, and attacked him with a metal trailer hook - hoping to steal the actor's marijuana plants, according to police.

Barrymore, 47, underwent brain surgery on Friday and was expected to recover, reported the San Jose Mercury News.

Barrymore, who is the grandson of the silent film star of the same name and has the same father as Drew Barrymore - John Barrymore Jr - has had several minor movie roles.

Burton reveals miscarriage trauma

Actress Amanda Burton has spoken publicly about being unable to pick up TV's Best Actress award after suffering a miscarriage.

The star of BBC TV's Silent Witness said she was thrilled to find she was pregnant last year, but added: "Then we lost the baby, which is the most ghastly thing a woman can go through."

Instead of joining other stars for the National Television Awards ceremony in October, she remained at home in pain.

Burton, who is married to Swedish photographer Sven Arnstein with whom she has two daughters, has now decided she does not want any more children.

Popstars reject injured in tug-of-war

A member of pop group Liberty X was recovering in hospital today after injuring himself in a TV tug-of-war match.

Kevin Simm was taking part in the stunt for Channel 4 music show Popworld with the rest of the band.

"When the rope went he impaled himself on a pole and it is thought he has bruised his kidney," a spokesman for the group said.

Liberty X were formed after coming runners-up in the ITV1 talent search Popstars, and were forced to add the X to their name after court battle which ruled the name Liberty belonged to a London funk band.

Unicef honours Hepburn with statue

A seven-foot high sculpture dedicated to the late Hollywood actress Audrey Hepburn is to be unveiled outside Unicef headquarters in New York.

Stars including Roger Moore, singer Harry Belafonte, actresses Mia Farrow and Isabella Rosselini are expected to attend the unveiling ceremony on Tuesday.

Hepburn acted as a goodwill ambassador for Unicef from 1988 until her death in 1993.

"All of us who loved Audrey are thrilled that this beautiful piece of art will be on permanent display in New York City," said her long-time friend Robert Wolders.
