What’s changing
Starting today, we’re expanding the ability to upload code folders to select Google Workspace users. Additionally, all Google Workspace users can now easily add their GitHub repositories into the Gemini App, providing Gemini the context of their codebase.

In the text box select “Add files +” and select “Import code”
You can choose to upload code from GitHub when importing code into Gemini.
You can import code from public or private repositories, and ask questions about it, including:
- Code understanding: You can ask Gemini to help you understand the codebase, answer questions about specific functions
- Improve code: You can ask Gemini to make the code more efficient, suggest code additions and improvements
- Generate code: You can ask Gemini to write event handlers for the attached code to recommend products to users
- Debug your code: You can ask Gemini to help identify why your code is generating an error message and how to resolve it.
Additional details
- The code folder upload feature, as well as the GitHub app, are only available for users who are 18+.
- Code folder upload is limited to the Gemini web app (gemini.google.com).
- The GitHub app is not available to Google Workspace users accessing Gemini as an additional Google service.
Getting started
- Admins:
- Code folder upload is available in the Gemini app by default - There is no admin control for this feature.
- Github must be accessible to your users via the Google Workspace Marketplace. Visit the Help Center to learn more about managing access to apps in the Google Workspace Marketplace.
- End users:
- Once enabled by your admin, using the Github app requires you to connect Github in the Gemini Apps setting.
- Visit the Help Center to learn more about uploading code to Gemini and importing a GitHub repository in the Gemini app.
