As part of its commitment to academic excellence along with its effort to create a lasting legacy in the communities that host the Memorial Cup, the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) created the Memorial Cup Legacy Scholarship program in 2022.
Over a five-year period after hosting a Memorial Cup, this program selects annually two (2) individuals from the host cities of the Memorial Cup with an academic scholarship valued at $5,000 to support their pursuit of post-secondary education.
While the 2022 Memorial Cup in Saint John kickstarted the Memorial Cup Legacy Scholarship, the program is entering the third year of its existence in 2024-25.
The CHL also plans to raise funds for this scholarship program at the 2025 Memorial Cup in order to be able to activate it over a five-year period in Rimouski, Que., starting next season.
Thus far, there has been a total of 12 recipients of the Memorial Cup Legacy Scholarship Program; six (6) from Saint John, four (4) from Kamloops and two (2) from Saginaw.
Congratulations to our 2024-25 recipients:
Saint John: Jacob McLeod and Leah Coakley
Kamloops: Sourish Rajesh Kanna and Keegan Meyers-Martinson
Saginaw: Ella Yantz and Lauren Gallagher
