Eric Bischoff is
one of the most powerful men in wrestling today, which has earned him
Richter scale cheers and jeers. He has directed the success of World
Championship Wrestling as president by attracting the greatest superstars,
finding the best young talent and creating the hottest prime-time show on
basic cable, WCW Monday Nitro Live On TNT.
On television, Bischoff's
character jumped aboard the New World Order (nWo) and joined wrestling icon
"Hollywood" Hogan, Giant, Scotty Steiner and Buff Bagwell to spear-head the
episodic drama of the NWO hostile takeover of WCW.
Supervising
the day-to-day operations of the best wrestling company on the planet,
Bischoff oversees television programming, talent acquisition and strategic
planning. Through his leadership WCW/nWo has become a solid profit center
of Turner Sports Inc., after years in red ink. Maximizing existing revenue
areas and creating fresh marketing strategies WCW/nWo has enjoyed record
buy rates on 12 pay-per-views annually, while weekly producing eight hours
of programming seen on TNT, TBS and syndication covering 94% of the
country.
Prior to his current position, Bischoff gained valuable
experience with the Minnesota-based American Wrestling Association (AWA),
which appeared on ESPN. He was also involved in various duties in the AWA
including syndication sales, event promotions, corporate sponsorships and
off-line production.
Bischoff has also broadened his exposure
with appearances on E! Entertainment TV, Jeff Foxworthy Show and The
Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
Eric Bischoff, a native of Detroit
and long-time Minnesotan, attended St. Cloud University and University of
Minnesota. He currently resides in Atlanta, GA, with his wife and two
children. Bischoff's many hobbies include motorcycles, flying planes and
martial arts.
