The 2006 WHL Bantam Draft is set for Thursday morning in Calgary, Alberta, at the Round-up Centre (Stampede Park). The WHL Bantam Draft is a talent identification process which serves as the first opportunity for WHL teams to add players in the bantam age group, 1991 birthdates, to their respective 50 player lists.

Previous Number One selections during the WHL Bantam Draft include
Gilbert Brule, Vancouver Giants (2002),
Kyle Chipchura, Prince Albert Raiders (2001),
Braydon Coburn, Portland Winter Hawks (2000),
Jay Bouwmeester, Medicine Hat Tigers (1998),
Jarret Stoll, Kootenay Ice (1997) and last year's first overall selection,
Colten Teubert by the Regina Pats.
Numerous players are not selected during the Bantam Draft but develop and become WHL stars at a later date. Some examples include the 2002 WHL Player of the Year, Dan Hamhuis of the Prince George Cougars and the 2002 NHL scoring leader and co-winner of the 2003-04 NHL goal scoring leader and former Kamloops Blazer, Jarome Iginla.
