Dinesh D'Souza Named President of The King's College in NYC
Celebrating a Record Recruiting Year,
Campus Crusade for Christ Sets The Kings College on its Own Feet
NEW
YORK, Aug. 23, 2010The Kings College, after an extensive nationwide search,
enthusiastically announces former White House policy analyst and best-selling
author Dinesh DSouza as the schools new president. DSouza previously served
as the John M. Olin Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, and the Robert
and Karen Rishwain Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University.
Located in the Empire State Building, The Kings College is a Christian liberal
arts college that educates students to bring competitive Christian ideas to
positions of leadership in the institutions of government, civil society, media,
law, education, business, the arts, and the church. The Kings College is listed
by the Intercollegiate Studies Institute as one of the top 50 colleges for
conservatives and was included in the list of top conservative colleges last
year by the Young Americas Foundation.
Named by the New York Times Magazine
as one of America's most influential conservative thinkers, D'Souza is a model
of the ideal Kings College graduatea leading voice that influences public
opinion and public policy with ideas that compete with generally accepted, but
failed ideas.
We are thrilled to welcome DSouza as the new president, said
Andy Mills, interim president of The Kings College. DSouza is well-equipped
to lead, inspire and equip students to address the issues of the world with a
confident, articulate voice.
With the 2010 fall semester beginning August 25,
DSouza assumes his position immediately.
Im coming back to the issue I
started with 20 years ago, said DSouza, author of Illiberal Education, an
expos of the problems in higher education. I want to be a part of the solution
and The Kings College is an exciting part of that solution.
Our goal at The
King's College is to prepare intellectually-gifted students to transform society
by preparing them for careers in which they help to shape and eventually to lead
strategic public and private institutions. We love it when our graduates bring
transformation to the key institutions of societybusiness, law, politics,
academia and media," said DSouza, who is listed by the World Affairs Council as
one of the nation's 500 leading authorities on international issues.
For
twelve years, Campus Crusade for Christ supported The Kings College as it
established itself as a world-class facility that equips and empowers students
to successfully assume significant leadership positions in society. The Kings
College has experienced double digit growth several years in a row and expects
more than 400 students this fall, including 215 new students enrolled for the
fall of 2010. Kings commitment to an excellent education builds on a core
curriculum of Politics, Philosophy, and Economics the foundation for the
Colleges reputation for academic excellence. The average SAT score of the
incoming freshman class is 1900, on par with some of the top colleges in the
country.
The Kings Colleges Board of Directors and Campus Crusade for
Christs Board of Directors recently voted to begin a process toward launching
The Kings College as an independent entity.
With full ownership and new
leadership, The Kings College has the opportunity to focus exclusively on its
mission of educating biblically-based thinkers poised to produce change
throughout society, said Steve Douglass, president of Campus Crusade for
Christ. Were proud to be a part of the history of The Kings College and to
have played a role in helping it become what it is today.
Founded in 1938 and
re-established in New York City in 1999, The Kings College exists to challenge
broadly-accepted ideas in higher education through a rigorous academic
programguided by Christian principlesthat equips and empowers students to
successfully assume significant leadership positions in society. The Kings
College is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. For
