What does it take for a successful actor to throw it all away in favour of an isolated existence on 400 acres of wilderness in Uruguay? An answer rather escapes Ben Fogle, who’s visiting Rhona Mitra in the adobe and thatch house she’s built here and where she lives alone, growing her own vegetables and providing a refuge for horses.
Having bought the land in 2017 after an autoimmune disease nearly felled her, Mitra has created a stunning space for herself to heal all sorts of wounds. But it’s undoubtedly not been easy, and Fogle is clearly concerned for her as a lone woman in a very macho culture. It’s all rather emotional.
