Your profile on WordPress.com is the public-facing information associated with your account. You can find and update your WordPress.com profile information using this guide.
In this guide
There are two profile information areas in your WordPress.com dashboard:
- Your WordPress.com account profile details that apply to all sites owned by your account.
- Site-specific profile that you can control separately for each individual site in your account.
The information in your WordPress.com account profile is publicly accessible by anyone on the internet, so you should only enter details that you are comfortable sharing with everyone (regardless of whether your site is private).
To access and update your WordPress.com profile settings, take these steps:
- Visit your dashboard.
- In the top-right corner of the page, hover your mouse over your name or profile picture.
- Click the option labeled “My Profile“.
You can add or update the following optional fields in your WordPress.com profile:
- Profile photo: An image representing you or your brand. If you add a profile photo, you will also get a Gravatar profile. You can update your profile photo by moving your mouse over your current photo and clicking the “Click to change photo” text that appears over the photo.
- First name: Your first name.
- Last name: Your last name.
- Public display name: This is how you would like your name to be displayed publicly, such as your first name, a nickname, or your brand’s name. You can change this name as often as you’d like. If you do not enter a public display name, your WordPress.com username is shown by default.
- Public web address: You can add a link to include with your profile when you leave comments on WordPress.com sites. This can be your website or blog that you want people to discover.
- About me: A brief bio or other information you want to display on your profile.
After updating any of these details, click the button labeled “Save profile details” to save your changes.
Your public web address will display when you leave comments on other WordPress.com blogs, which can be useful for sharing your site with others. If you want to update or remove the address that appears on your comments, you can follow these steps:
- Visit your profile at https://wordpress.com/me.
- In the box labeled “Public web address,” type or remove the URL link of the site you would like display with your comments.
- Click the button labeled “Save profile details” at the bottom of the screen.
Note that changing your public web address will not affect the displayed link on any existing comments you have made; it will only change the displayed link for any new comments you make in the future.
Your profile information is shown when you like and comment on WordPress.com websites and on any other site using Gravatar (such as the WordPress.com forums) unless you have opted to hide your profile in your profile settings.
After leaving a comment, someone can hover the mouse cursor over your name to view a hovercard with your profile information:
Click on the “View profile” link to access the user’s complete profile.
In your site’s dashboard, visit Users → Profile to access the following settings for the selected site:
- Visual Editor: Disable the visual editor if you wish to write in HTML code only.
- Syntax Highlighting: Disable syntax highlighting when editing code.
- Admin Color Scheme: Personalize the colors of your site’s admin dashboard.
- Keyboard Shortcuts: Enable keyboard shortcuts for comment moderation.
- Toolbar: Show the top toolbar when viewing your website (for site users only – the general public will not see the toolbar regardless of this setting).
If you have installed plugins, you may find additional settings here provided by those plugins.
Click the button labeled “Update Profile” at the bottom of the screen to save changes to the site-specific profile settings.
