• Hi,

    I LOVE your plugin. I use it on multiple sites and tell all of my clients to use it as well.

    However….for months all LinkedIn links have been being marked as broken.

    I check them, click on not broken and a couple of days later…broken.

    This has been going on for months across multiple sites. It has been through multiple versions of WP and multiple versions of the plugin.

    LinkedIn links are not the only ones this is happening to, but it is happening to ALL of them.

    The plugin shows an unknown error with the following details on one of the linkedin links this morning.

    Link last checked: October 15, 2014
    HTTP code: 999
    Response time: 0.049 seconds
    Final URL: http://www.linkedin.com/pub/paul-flowers/7/777/159
    Redirect count: 0
    Instance count: 1

    This link has failed 3 times.
    This link has been broken for 2 hours.
    Log: === HTTP code : 999 ===

    HTTP/1.1 999 Request denied
    Date: Wed, 15 Oct 2014 19:04:09 GMT
    Server: ATS
    X-Li-Pop: PROD-ELA4
    X-LI-UUID: BvLXqaxnnROgUk8oDisAAA==
    Content-Length: 511
    Content-Type: text/html

    Link is broken.

    I have even tied making the timeout time longer (60 seconds instead of the default 30 seconds) and no change.

    It is very frustrating. To the point that most of the time I am finding myself ignoring the emails I get and the broken link notices when I login because half the time the links that are marked as broken are not actually broken.

    A fix to these issue would be GREATLY appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Cindy

  • Judging by the “Request denied” error in the log, LinkedIn is deliberately blocking BLCs attempts to check those links. It might be because the site has a lot of LinkedIn links; maybe they find it suspicious that the server is sending a lot of requests for their links.

    Unfortunately, there’s not much I can do about that. For now, all I can recommend is adding linkedin.com to the exclusion list in Settings -> Link Checker -> Which Links To Check.
