UPDATE:
On Instagram, Stallone has confirmed the project, writing "Something wicked is coming this way!"

The image confirms the film is titled Rambo V and includes a Fall 2019 release date.

Original story follows:
Sylvester Stallone is reportedly set to star in Rambo 5.

Deadline reports Stallone will reprise his role as Vietnam veteran John Rambo for the fifth film in the franchise. The actor is penning the screenplay but it's not likely he'll direct the project.

The story will follow Rambo trying to rescue one of his friends' kidnapped daughter. Rambo, who's been working on a ranch, finds himself crossing the U.S.-Mexican border and going up against one of Mexico’s most violent cartels.

Avi Lerner (The Expendables franchise) will produce the movie, which should begin production later this year in September.

The Rambo franchise first launched in 1982 with First Blood. The latest entry in the franchise is 2008's Rambo, which Stallone directed. Talks of Rambo 5 first surfaced back in 2009.

Stallone is currently working on Creed II, which hits theaters on November 21.
