Skateboarding Career
Unlike his father, who pioneered the modern vertical skateboarding style, Riley Hawk is best known for street skateboarding. On his 21st birthday in 2013, he turned professional, and was simultaneously named Skateboarder magazine's Amateur of the Year. Hawk has appeared in a number of installments in the "Tony Hawk's" video game franchise, including "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD" (2012), "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5" (2015), and "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2" (2020). He is sponsored by the skateboarding company Baker and the footwear company Lakai.
Other Activities
Beyond skateboarding, Hawk practices Brazilian jiu-jitsu. In the martial art, he has achieved a blue belt. Elsewhere, Hawk serves as the frontman of the heavy-punk band Warish, a trio also consisting of drummer Justin de la Vega and bassist Alex Bassaj. With a different lineup, the band released its debut album "Down in Flames" in 2019. Warish released its sophomore album, "Next to Pay," and its lead single, "Say to Please," in 2021. Hawk was previously in the psych-rock band Petyr.
Among his various other activities, Hawk opened the coffee shop Steel Mill Coffee with fellow skater Shea Cooper in 2019. He ran the 900-square-foot space, located in Oceanside, California, until its closure in late 2021. Steel Mill subsequently relocated to Vista, California, where it began selling tea and fruit sodas in addition to coffee.
