Geoffrey Arend was born on February 28, 1978, in Manhattan, New York. His parents, Sabiha Khan Arend and Geoffrey D. Arend Sr., founded the trade publication Air Cargo News. Geoffrey's mother is  Pakistani, and his American father has English and German heritage. Arend grew up in Queens, and he attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, graduating in 1996.

From 1998 to 2001, Arend voiced Charles 'Upchuck' Ruttheimer III on the animated MTV series "Daria." He also voiced the character in the TV movie "Is It College Yet?" (2000) and the video game "Daria's Inferno" (2000). Geoffrey's first film was 2001's "Super Troopers," and he followed it with "Bubble Boy" (2001), "It Runs in the Family" (2003), "A Tale of Two Pizzas" (2003), "The Ringer" (2005), "National Lampoon's Pledge This!" (2006), "Loveless in Los Angeles" (2007), "Killing Zelda Sparks" (2007), and "An American Carol" (2008), and he co-starred with Zach Braff and Natalie Portman in 2004's "Garden State," which was also written and directed by Braff. On October 11, 2009, Geoffrey married actress Christina Hendricks, who was starring as Joan Harris on the Emmy-winning AMC series "Mad Men" at the time. The couple separated in April 2019, and their divorce was finalized in December of that year.
